TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bancroft School of Massage Therapy, 1991
PHILOSOPHY
Richard Tung received his initial training in Massage Therapy in 1991 from the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester, Massachusetts, - one of the oldest and most recognized schools of Swedish Massage. He is constantly striving to improve his massage and bodywork skills and since graduating has completed numerous hours of continuing education. Richard joined the staff at Longfellow Health Center in October, 1995 and has gained extensive experience working with hundreds of clients for the past 18 years. His passion and goal is a working partnership with his clients to help them reduce their stress and pain and improve the quality of their lives.
Richard became inspired to work in the massage field through his experience in caring for a terminally ill friend. During this period he witnessed the medical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of massage therapy to both the patient and caregiver. His background also includes a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts and ten years experience as a teacher/counselor working with clients with special needs.
Richard's continuing education has led to certification in Neuromuscular Therapy by the International Academy of NeuroMuscular Therapies, certification in Myofascial Massage Therapy by Robert King Seminars. He has completed two thirds of his training for Orthopedic Massage with Whitney Lowe and will be certified in the fall of 2010. Other body work training includes Structural Integration by Kinesis (Tom Myers), Active Isolated Stretching, and Personal Training. Richard was voted best Massage Therapist in Weston/Wellesley in the Tab Reader's Choice Awards.
TESTIMONIALS:
Richard Tung is simply in a different league from most massage therapists. He is smart and experienced and knows the body. But what I like most about Richard is that he is always adding to his knowledge by taking workshops, learning techniques from his peers, and listening to his clients needs with great care.

I started seeing Richard around ten years ago when I developed severe chronic migraines. He is a true professional--regularly inquiring about my status as well as keeping current on the latest methods and techniques in his field. I travel frequently and so have used other massage therapists in different locations, and I can honestly say that in my experience, Richard is the best.

As a client of Richard's for more than eight years, I can honestly say I highly recommend him. I have always had excellent results from his work. Having been to many different massage therapists over the years, both in Boston and while traveling, nobody has given me equivalent results. My issues, mostly back problems, tend to be a result of pushing myself in my athletic endeavors beyond my body's capabilities. Aside from trying to "slow myself down," which is not going to happen, the one remedy that I can always count on is Richard's ability. He pinpoints the areas causing the discomfort and other interconnected muscles in a way that only a highly trained and knowledgeable professional can do. His work is real magic, by methodically massaging and stretching those areas--the muscles relax and the pain slowly dissolves away. The next day, and especially the day after, I'm a new man ready to go again! He's a master of massage, no doubt. And, on those occasions where I have needed his help on short notice, he has always done his best to accommodate my schedule.

My work demands long hours seated at a desk. With no apparent trauma, I awoke one morning with excruciating neck pain. I'd received great massage from Mr. Tung in the past and recalled that he'd just finished a course in orthopedic massage. My treatment was well underway with his thoughtful questions that allowed him to begin narrowing down the scope, extent, and nature of my problem. With massage therapy, exercises, and the information and gear I needed to continually co-manage my care, I was virtually pain free within two weeks. I highly recommend Mr Tung for his expertise and professionalism and will always seek his services in the context of comfort and well-being.

I have been a client of Richard Tung for three years. Previously, I had visited over 10 different therapeutic massage clinics but I have never found a better massage therapist than Richard. He has a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy that helps him zero in on your problem and give relief in a fraction of the time it would take other therapists. Richard also continues his education with frequent attendance at workshops that enlarge his therapeutic tool box and that has been critical in solving some of my back problems. He is a friendly, helpful person and a pleasure to work with, I would recommend him to anyone who wanted a massage.

I have been a client of Richard Tung’s since December, 2000, when I lived in Newton, MA. Since 2005, I have lived in Quincy, MA. I am happy to drive the nearly 40-45 minutes to his Wellesley office because of his massage talent and the immediate, accompanied relief he provides. I suffer from a cervical spinal condition and was told by my doctors to "stay in shape and to seek massage therapy." I am happy to say that under Richard’s care over the past decade, I have been successful at avoiding dangerous surgery because of his ability to offer direct relief at the sources of pain and to provide me with additional stretching exercises, a regimen, if you will, designed solely for me. I can attest to the fact that Richard has the ability to alter his pressure touch levels based upon sensitivity, as I have brought many a friend and family member to his practice over the years; plus, I have been unable to take heavy pressure on some occasions. Usually, I am one of his more difficult patients and his pressure-level for me is incredibly high due to my nerve damage and muscle tension level. While I travel the world for business, approximately 75% of the weeks of the year, it is regular exercise, coupled with Richard’s knowledge (he remains up-to-date on the newest practices and techniques) and his "magic hands" that keep me mobile, pain-free and able to live my crazy, busy life.”

I have been a client of Richard for approximately ten years. I started when I was diagnosed with a muscle condition that required muscle therapy to my neck, shoulders, back and legs. Richard was experienced working on all these different areas, and was of great assistance during a difficult time. I always felt better after an appointment with Richard. Fortunately, my muscle condition has fully resolved, but I still see Richard on a regular basis to deal with normal aches and pains or simply to relax. He is a very skilled practitioner and I am lucky to know him.
