Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists utilize traditional and modern technologies acting to facilitate you in regaining function with ongoing education to achieve your goals. We provide quality health care planning, treatment/prevention techniques and independent or supervised health maintenance programs which promote active, injury free lives.

Our physical therapy services at Longfellow Health Center are provided by licensed physical therapists or physical therapy assistants in a one-on-one setting. A comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation is conducted, then the therapist and patient will design together a custom-made program based on the evaluative findings to assist the patient in achieving their functional goals. When appropriate, the treatment plan can be established in conjunction with other health practitioners, coaches or employers.

Physical therapy techniques may include skilled manual therapy, myofascial release, spinal stabilization, neuromuscular reeducation, electric stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, Nautilus, free weight training, Yoga poses, aerobic conditioning, sport-specific training, work conditioning and aquatic physical therapy.

Aquatic Physical Therapy

Aquatic Physical Therapy (formerly known as water therapy) at Longfellow Health Center is offered with a high level of expertise and experience by our physical therapy practitioners.

Depending on the diagnosis and condition, a deep or shallow water environment is available to our patients to achieve pain-free function. Aquatic physical therapy entails therapeutic exercises in a virtually gravity-eliminated environment to provide a safe, pain-free environment. The resistance of water provides a challenge for strength training and aerobic conditioning. The buoyancy of water supports injured structures and eliminates compressive forces that can cause pain and restrictive mobility. The hydrostatic force of water provides both a stimulus and a resistance for all structures in order to increase strength, stability, and tissue resiliency. Exercising in water allows the client to more actively participate in their recovery. These water activities are holistic in nature and immediately applicable to function on land.
